Warrior Horse is a fully funded, 3-day equine-assisted program located in Frierson, Louisiana, dedicated to serving veterans and first responders struggling with trauma, PTSD, and other emotional challenges. Through guided groundwork with horses, participants are given the opportunity to confront and release deeply held emotions in a safe, supportive environment. Below are answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding program details, logistics, and what to expect during the experience.
Where is the program located?
The program is located in Frierson, Louisiana, a small rural community just south of Shreveport. The facility is set on peaceful, open land that provides a calm and private environment ideal for the work done with the horses. The natural surroundings play an important role in helping attendees feel at ease and disconnected from the stresses of everyday life. The rural setting allows individuals to fully immerse themselves in the experience without outside distractions.
How much money does an individual need to bring to attend the program?
Warrior Horse is an all-expense-paid program. Lodging, meals, and transportation to and from the airport are completely covered. Attendees do not need to spend any money to participate. The program is funded entirely through the generosity of donors and supporters who believe in the mission of Warrior Horse. This ensures that cost is never a barrier for any veteran or first responder seeking help. The only investment required is a willingness to participate.
Where do individuals fly into to attend the program?
Attendees will fly into Shreveport Regional Airport (KSHV), located in Shreveport, Louisiana. This is the closest commercial airport to our facility in Frierson. Warrior Horse coordinates all flight arrangements in advance to ensure a smooth travel experience. Once attendees arrive at the airport, ground transportation to lodging will already be arranged. If any travel concerns or special accommodations are needed, the Warrior Horse team is available to assist throughout the booking process.
Will a Warrior Horse representative pick me up at the airport?
Yes. A Warrior Horse representative will be present at Shreveport Regional Airport upon your arrival to greet you and transport you directly to your lodging. There is no need to arrange a rideshare, taxi, or rental car. The representative will ensure you are settled in comfortably before the program begins. This service is provided for both arrival and departure, so transportation to the airport at the conclusion of the program is also taken care of.
Where do individuals stay during the 3-day program?
Attendees are lodged at the Holiday Inn Express nearest to our facility in Frierson. All accommodations are arranged and fully covered by Warrior Horse. The hotel provides a comfortable and quiet environment where attendees can rest and decompress after each day of the program. Rooms are reserved in advance, and attendees do not need to handle any aspect of the booking process. The goal is to ensure a seamless, stress-free experience from arrival to departure.
Will individuals ride the horses during the program?
No. All work with the horses is conducted entirely on the ground for the duration of the 3-day program. There is no mounted horseback riding involved at any point. The groundwork approach is intentional and central to the Warrior Horse methodology. It allows participants to build trust, establish connection, and engage emotionally with the horses in a controlled setting. No prior experience with horses is needed to participate fully in the program.
What transportation is available during the program?
Warrior Horse provides a dedicated vehicle to transport attendees between their lodging and the facility each day. A representative will pick attendees up each morning before sessions begin and return them to their lodging once the day’s activities have concluded. No rental car is provided. All transportation logistics are handled by Warrior Horse so that attendees can focus entirely on the program without worrying about navigating an unfamiliar area on their own.
Are meals provided while attending the program?
Yes. All meals are provided for attendees throughout the entire duration of the 3-day program at no cost. This includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Meals are coordinated by Warrior Horse to ensure attendees are well taken care of and can focus fully on the program. If an attendee has specific dietary needs or food allergies, we encourage them to communicate those in advance so that appropriate accommodations can be made ahead of time.
If I have a prosthesis, will I be able to attend the program?
Absolutely. Accommodations will be made for all individuals to attend and fully participate in the program, regardless of physical limitations. The Warrior Horse team works closely with each attendee prior to arrival to understand any specific needs and ensure the environment is accessible and comfortable. The groundwork activities with the horses are adaptable, and our staff is experienced in working with individuals of varying physical abilities. No one will be excluded from participating in the program.
Can I bring my service animal to the program?
We ask that service animals not be brought to the program, with the exception of seeing eye dogs or seizure detection dogs. This policy exists to maintain a controlled environment for both the horses and the attendees. The presence of unfamiliar animals can affect the behavior of the horses and potentially disrupt the therapeutic process. If you have concerns about attending without your service animal, please reach out to our team to discuss possible accommodations.
May I bring my spouse or significant other? Will Warrior Horse cover their travel?
The program is designed exclusively for the attending individual. Warrior Horse does not cover travel, lodging, or meal expenses for spouses, significant others, or any accompanying guests. This structure is intentional, as the program requires focused attention and emotional openness that can be difficult to achieve with familiar people present. The 3-day experience is most effective when attendees are fully immersed without outside influences. We appreciate your understanding that this policy exists to support the best possible outcome.
I use THC medicinal items to manage my trauma. Can I use them during the program?
We ask that no drugs or alcohol be consumed while on Warrior Horse grounds. This policy applies to all substances, including THC medicinal products, regardless of whether they are legally prescribed or obtained. The horses are highly sensitive to changes in a person’s state, and the use of substances can interfere with the connection and emotional breakthroughs the program is designed to facilitate. We want every attendee to experience the full benefit of the program in a clear and present state.
What is asked of individuals attending the program?
The only thing asked is that you come willing to be vulnerable. While this can feel uncomfortable, it is critical to the process. The horses are remarkably perceptive and respond best to individuals who are open and willing to release pent-up emotions. The most meaningful and lasting results we have seen come from those who are ready to let go and trust the process. No one is forced, but willingness to engage makes all the difference.
Can local individuals attend the program?
Local individuals are absolutely welcome to attend the program. Warrior Horse serves veterans and first responders regardless of where they reside. Living near the facility does not disqualify anyone from participation. Local attendees go through the same application process and receive the same level of care and support as those traveling from out of state. The program experience is designed to be equally impactful for all attendees, regardless of proximity.
Will local individuals be placed in lodging with out-of-town attendees?
It depends on the individual’s situation. Warrior Horse always prioritizes what is best for the attendee. If a local individual’s home life may serve as a distraction during the 3-day program, Warrior Horse will arrange lodging alongside out-of-town attendees to support the best possible experience. Removing familiar environments can help individuals stay focused and emotionally present throughout the process. This decision is made collaboratively with each attendee during the planning stages prior to the program.
Will my picture be taken and used for public media?
Not without your permission. A media release form will be provided during the program for your review. If you choose to sign it, Warrior Horse may use images taken during the program for public media purposes such as the website, social media, or television features. If you prefer your image not be used in any capacity, your wishes will be fully respected. Warrior Horse is committed to protecting the privacy and comfort of every individual who attends the program.
